Renaissance Academy Dean Releases Debut Poetry Collection: Pieces of April

Renaissance Academy proudly highlights the accomplishments of Philip Repko, Elementary School Dean of Students, who recently achieved a significant milestone as a published author. Repko’s debut poetry collection, Pieces of April,  made its official debut on November 23, 2024 through Anxiety Press.  The 165-page volume is currently available for purchase on Amazon.

Repko's  Pieces of April originated from a cherished family tradition. Every April, which is National Poetry Month in the United States, Repko and his two sons, Philip (38) and Ian (33), challenge themselves to write a poem each day throughout the month. Though this book is a solo effort by Repko, he credits his sons for their inspiration and creative camaraderie, which shaped much of the work in this collection.

The poems in Pieces of April  are primarily contemporary in style, though  Repko’s deep grounding in classic American and British literature is evident throughout. The collection is organized into chapters that reflect the themes and concerns of specific calendar years, with selections spanning from 2023 back to 2016. The poems explore cultural moments, personal joys, and universal themes of life—providing a heartfelt journey for readers.

Repko has a distinguished career in education, having dedicated nearly 25 years as an English teacher in the Boyertown Area School District before serving another 11 years in the Daniel Boone Area School District. He currently serves as the Elementary School Dean of Students at Renaissance Academy

At 63, Repko’s journey to publication reflects decades of writing and creativity. When asked what this accomplishment meant to him, Repko shared, “The dedication to the book references my family, but first is my mother. My mom had nine kids and was harried and frazzled for the 60 years that I knew her. She told me, however, from the time I was a teenager, that I should write a book. The comment started when I told stories about the switch from Catholic school to public school and continued through my college years and young adulthood.

I think she meant that I should tell stories, and the book is a book of verse. But I think she would be happy and proud that there's a book out there with my name on it, and her name in it.”

Renaissance Academy congratulates Philip Repko on this remarkable achievement and celebrates his contributions as both an educator and a creative artist. His dedication to education and literature continues to inspire our students and the community.

Pieces of April  is available in paperback on Amazon for $15.00. to purchase the book, click here:
