Renaissance Academy’s Journey as an Amazon Future Engineer School.

Renaissance Academy has been accepted for the Amazon Future Engineer Program in collaboration with Project STEM, commencing in the 2023-2024 school year.

The Amazon STEM Project introduces a project-based computer science curriculum tailored for middle schools, fostering students' potential through practical, real-world problem-solving.

This partnership is possible through the dedicated efforts of Mrs. Angela Wagner, an Elementary/ Middle School Computer Science teacher. While researching various coding curriculums, Mrs. Wagner discovered the Amazon Future Engineer Program. The application process encompassed two questionnaires and an interview. The first questionnaire delved into details about our school and student body, aligning our criteria with the program's goals.  Renaissance Academy received a second questionnaire on Mrs. Wagner's experience teaching Computer Science. The culmination was a comprehensive phone interview, during which the questionnaires were reviewed. Mrs. Wagner enthusiastically discussed her commitment to implementing the Project STEM curriculum and investing over 10 hours in Professional Development and program-related training.

Mrs.Wagner will introduce the Computer Science Explorations 1 Unit to her 6th-grade students in the upcoming academic year. CS Exploration 1 is an introductory course based on the MyCS Scratch curriculum, empowering students to interact with computer science as a medium of creativity, communication, problem-solving, and enjoyment through a series of real-world scenarios, projects, and challenges.

When asked about the impact of Project STEM on her students during the 2023-2024 school year, Mrs.Wagner expressed her gratitude for this remarkable opportunity.

“I am thankful for this amazing opportunity to share Project STEM lessons and activities with my 6th-grade classes. My hope is to have our students become as excited as I am to explore new concepts in Computer Science.”

We congratulate Mrs.Wagner and her 6th-grade students on the journey ahead as they explore the many avenues of Computer Science.
