Renaissance Academy is proud to announce that Renaissance will continue to source electricity from 100% green suppliers. RA was able to negotiate a 31-month contract with a new supplier for less than a one-cent per Kilowatt-hour increase!
RA has been sourcing electricity from green suppliers since 2018. A green supplier is a provider of electricity that is generated in a green manner through wind, solar, hydro, biomass, and waste heat. Our current supplier, Interstate Gas Supply offers us a blended product.
Working with our supplier offers an on-site, real-time opportunity for our students and staff to learn about the current energy issues surrounding fossil fuels. Facilities Manager, William Stubanas saw the opportunity to create change and place RA on the front line of the initiative of environmental reform. Stubanas was an overseer of RA's utility expenses and figured out how RA could become a part of the movement of protecting the environment. “As an energy manager in my previous employment and after gaining access to our utility expenses I knew we could do better,” says Stubanas. “This led to us switching energy suppliers as well as the start of our LED lighting project.”
In 2009, the LED lighting program was put together as a project to replace all ballast-driven fluorescent lighting with LED lighting. Exactly 1,500 bulbs were removed and rewired from every light fixture in and outside of the building. While this was considered to be a vast project, it was completed within roughly 2 and a half weeks.
Between shopping energy suppliers and the LED lighting project, RA has saved roughly 55% of electricity costs and has reduced energy costs by roughly 15%.
