Required Health Screenings

It is recommended that students go to their own physician and dentist. However, if you are unable to go to your own physician or dentist, a screening exam will be provided by the school physician or dentist in the spring.

Exams may be performed up to 1 year in advance.

Health Screenings preformed by the School Nurse:

  • Vision: K-12th
  • Hearing: K-3rd, 7th, 11th
  • Height & Weight: K-12th
  • Scoliosis: Grade 6th and 7th
  • BMI, Body Mass Index: K-12th

New Legislative Mandate For Vision Screening in PA
 

Section 1403.1. Vision Screening and Examinations.--(a) (1) Prior to admission to school for the first time, a parent or legal guardian shall present to the school entity or nonpublic school certification from a primary care provider or vision screener that the child has passed or failed a vision screening performed by a primary care provider(this can be part of yearly physical) or a vision screening conducted by screeners with specific training in vision screening techniques and protocols approved by the Department of Health or has completed a comprehensive eye exam conducted by an ophthalmologist or optometrist within the previous twelve months.
